Plant based heroes

October 21, 2023
From vegan biscuit crumb and vegan mallows, to flavoured rasped coconut and plant based sprinkles, there are lots of options in the OV Vegan Range to meet your vegan suitable and dairy free needs.
The vegan trend is here to stay, with consumers demanding more plant-based options for ethical, environmental and health reasons.

Here’s a rundown of just some of the products in our range that meet this consumer need for vegan friendly* confectionery.

HONEYCOMB HERO

You may not realise that honeycomb is a naturally plant-based product that has never contained anything animal derived in its ingredient list.

Despite its name, honeycomb does not contain honey. Unlike caramels, it is also free from dairy products and good for anyone with a kosher or halal diet. It’s also naturally palm oil and nut free.

RECREATING TRADITIONAL FAVOURITES

We’ve worked hard to create vegan friendly versions of some of our traditional bestsellers, offering a range that includes plant based mixed non pareil, sugar shapes, and more.

Alongside these products you’ll also find a range of plant-based fudge replacements in a variety of flavours including salted caramel, lemon, chocolate, coconut and more.

And there’s our unique Fudjie® range. Originally created to provide a product with a fudge texture that would hold vibrant colours and flavours, these plant-based wonders are completely dairy free.

GET FRUITY

When it comes to fruit, we manufacture an abundance of products for you to include in and on your bakes, ice creams, desserts, drinks and more.

OV freeze dried fruits have a myriad of applications. There are no additives to this product, the only ingredient is the fruit itself. Removing the water content from the fruit creates a more intense flavour and aroma alongside a vivid colour; creating a product that will really catch your customer’s eye and delight their tastebuds.

Our freeze-dried fruit stands up extremely well as a topping, even for wet products such as cheesecakes, fresh cream and ganache.

We also offer roller dried fruit and veg in more than thirty flavours including artisan flavours such as bilberry, rosehip and sea buckthorn.

Caramel: The Strategic Role of Familiar Flavours in Product Innovation

Caramel has long been a favourite across bakery, ice cream and confectionery, and its appeal shows no signs of fading. Mintel's latest flavour tracking places caramel, salted caramel and fudge in a stable growth position, but stability should not be mistaken for stagnation. Rather than competing through flavour novelty, manufacturers are using caramel, fudge and textured inclusions to create richer food experiences, greater indulgence and stronger shelf appeal. For food manufacturers, the opportunity is no longer simply whether to use caramel, but how to use it. Soft, hard and aerated caramel products, alongside fudge, buttercrocant, honeycomb and caramel inclusions, are transforming familiar products into more premium, sensory-led experiences.
